Frequently Asked Questions

Q; What are the differences between Les Croix and Les Levades ?

A: Les Levades is slightly larger at 5 acres, Les Croix is around 4 acres in size. Levades is an easier water, Les Croix has a bigger average size of carp. We rate Levades as an easy water where you are guaranteed to catch lots of carp from high doubles to mid 20's, and always with the chance of some big fish of which there are around 30 carp 35-50lbs.

We rate Les Croix as moderate, it is a real anglers water where you need to think about your fishing and adapt to the conditions, good anglers always catch well, There are now many thirties at Les Croix and several forties with fish of 50lbs+ present and the average size well over 25lbs.

At Les Croix we are on site 24/7, at Les Levades you will be visited daily. Both lakes have excellent accommodation and facilities. At Les Levades food is not available. The bait and tackle shop at Les Croix is open to all anglers fishing Les Levades.

Q: Can I book without the accommodation ?

A: At Les Croix, no. At Les Levades, "drive and survive" fishing is possible at reduced prices. Freedom Lakes is bivvy fishing only.

Q: Do you take individual bookings ?

A: Les Croix and Les Levades can only be booked on an exclusive basis. Freedom Lakes can be booked on an individual basis or exclusively.

Q: Will there be any other anglers at the venues during my booked week ?

A: At Les Croix and Les Levades, the whole site is reserved exclusively for your party for the week. Freedom Lakes can also be reserved exclusively - see prices.

Q: How much bait will I need for a weeks fishing ?

A : Les Croix and Les Levades both respond well to regular and sometimes heavy baiting tactics. If the fish are feeding well you will need a good amount of bait. 25-30kg of boilies, 25kg of pellets and 25kg of parti-blend have been used to good effect at both venues. As we sell bait on site at competitive prices, it may be worth bearing this in mind rather than transporting large quantities of bait over to France. Freedom Lakes sell quality bait on site and we advise that you use it.

Q: What types of baits are allowed ?

A: We encourage anglers to use the Bait that is sold on site which is fresh/frozen PREMIER BAITS boilies, our own quality pellets and our own prepared parti-blend. Quality Boilies and pellets from recognised UK manufacturers such as NASH/SOLAR/MAINLINE/NUTRABAITS etc are allowed. Please use fresh/frozen boilies rather than preserved bait(shelf-life boilies are not allowed). There are freezer facilities at both lakes. In terms of particle baits, only sweetcorn and our own prepared parti-blend is permitted. All nut baits are prohibited.

Q; Can I use braided hooklengths at the lakes ?

A: Yes, braided and coated braid hooklength materials are allowed. Braided main line is not permitted at any venue and shockleaders are prohibited at Les Croix and Les Levades.

Q: Can I use my own landing net, weigh sling and unhooking mat ?

A: Les Croix and Les Levades supply, and all anglers MUST USE the nets, slings and mats which are top quality items and which are provided FOC. Please DO NOT BRING nets, slings or mats.

At Freedom Lakes you can use your own nets, slings and mats.

Q: Is my UK carp set-up suitable for use at the lakes ?

A: Yes, a standard UK carp fishing set-up is perfectly adequate. On Freedom Lakes 1 a setup including big pit reels and long range rods would be an advantage. Please refer to the lake rules for specific information regarding lines, rigs etc.
